Cybersecurity developers leverage .Security domains to build credibility, harness AI, and signal their dedication to protecting digital assets. AI-driven company DryRun.Security enhances contextual code risk analysis for development teams. AI-driven platform Reach.Security aims to transform enterprise cybersecurity operations. Cybersecurity platform Astrix.Security strives to keep enterprise systems secure from cyber attacks and data breaches. In this week’s #AIMonday, we’ll introduce you to a company using AI to help organizations manage GenAI adoption while minimizing data security risks: Harmonic.Security.

Inside Harmonic: A platform built for AI-era data protection

Harmonic.Security is the online home of Harmonic, a cybersecurity platform designed to help organizations adopt Generative AI (GenAI) while minimizing risk to sensitive data. According to Harmonic, the platform is designed to provide visibility into employee usage of AI tools and to address security and compliance challenges associated with unmanaged GenAI adoption. Its browser-based solution is described as offering continuous monitoring and policy enforcement across thousands of AI applications. In October 2024, Harmonic raised $17.5 million in a Series A funding round led by Next47, with participation from Ten Eleven Ventures, bringing the company’s total funding to over $26 million since its launch in 2023.1

How Harmonic uses AI to support safer GenAI use

According to Harmonic, the platform incorporates artificial intelligence designed to support a range of data protection functions. Harmonic is designed to detect personal and sensitive data—such as intellectual property, payment information, and customer records—before it’s shared with GenAI tools. Its core AI feature, Maestro, is built to interpret natural-language instructions and provide human-like detection of sensitive data. Harmonic states that its platform is designed to surface insights into AI usage trends across an organization, identify unapproved applications—often referred to as “Shadow AI”—and provide tools intended to coach employees toward safer practices. These features are geared toward giving security teams a scalable way to oversee GenAI use without relying on complex rule-setting or manual reviews.

Leading with experience: Harmonic’s co-founder and CEO

According to his LinkedIn profile, Alastair Paterson co-founded Harmonic in 2023 and serves as its CEO. He previously co-founded and led cybersecurity firm Digital Shadows, which was acquired by ReliaQuest in 2022. Paterson brings years of experience working with secure government clients and large enterprises on cyber risk and intelligence programs. At Harmonic, he is focused on developing technologies aimed at helping companies use AI responsibly.

How real-world feedback brings Harmonic’s mission into focus

Featuring testimonials on a website can be an effective way to highlight real-world perspectives from early adopters and decision-makers. Harmonic.Security includes quotes from industry professionals who reflect on the challenges of adopting GenAI tools and the considerations that influenced their security approach. Sascha Maier, CISO at SV Group, states “We wanted to adopt GenAl tools but were worried about the risks to our sensitive data. Existing controls could block the whole category, but that’s not what we wanted. Harmonic gives me visibility and control.” Rinki Sethi, CISO at Bill.com, states “Data security is long overdue disruption. Harmonic is providing fresh thinking and new solutions to challenges amplified by Al.” Testimonials like these can help visitors understand use cases and concerns from the perspective of peers, making abstract security challenges more tangible.
