One of the most commonly broken New Year’s Resolutions out there is to “learn something new.” These days – with fast paced lives and busy schedules – it’s tough to find time for that unfinished book or stay up to date on the news. This challenge is what has led to the rapid growth of the audio entertainment industry, and it brings us to this week’s #WebsiteWednesday:

Recently featured on Product Hunt (a curation of the latest websites, apps, and technology products today), is a platform where users can submit articles, turn them into beautifully narrated audio recordings, and then listen to them at their leisure. That means you don’t need to wait until your workday is over to read about what’s happening in the world today; you can enjoy your favorite blogs and articles while you work!

When it comes to creating a narration, the opportunities are endless. We’ve seen the audio world open up to a myriad of new genres, with podcasts for personal stories, murder mysteries, historical events, stand up comedy…the list goes on and on. With, you no longer have to wait for your favorite content to appear on the latest podcast feeds – the audio world is your proverbial oyster.

Creator Alan Garrec has hit the nail on the head when it comes to using technology to make life easier and more efficient, and he did it using his short, memorable .xyz domain name. Curious why they chose this particular name? Here’s what they had to say about their domain:

As any startup knows finding a decent .com is either very time consuming or very costly. We literally just tried punching in various names and found was available for $1, so it stuck”

We know how challenging the startup grind can be. We also know the importance of a domain name when it comes to a young company’s success. Well done for finding a creative solution to a problem that plagues too many young entrepreneurs! And thanks to them, tackling some of that reading list won’t just be another New Year’s Resolution that you never quite get to. Get a head start this year and start submitting your favorite articles now!

Welcome to #GenXYZ – GoDaddy customer (New Zealand)

Even though we’re all excited about the holidays, this season can be tough on your stress levels – and your wallet. But this week’s #WebsiteWednesday,, takes your typical holiday shopping experience and turns it upside down – making gift giving less stressful and more fun!

Dropit is an app and website featuring a radical new reverse auction that makes online shopping more thrilling for its users. Here’s how it works: reverse auctions drop in price during a 60 second countdown – the longer an auction lasts, the cheaper the item becomes. The key is to weigh how much you want the item versus how long you are willing to wait for the price to drop.

The result is “a great gaming experience for shoppers” says Dropit’s chief executive and marketing manager, Peter Howell. “Dropit is like nothing else on the market today, it’s fast, it’s super exciting and the items are all premium.”

Another benefit to Dropit: Bonus Bucks. Not only can you save tons of money with Dropit, but you’ll also earn Bonus Bucks for every second that passes while you’re participating in an auction. Your earnings can then be used at the end of every month to win items in special Bonus Bucks auctions. So even if you don’t snag the item you originally wanted, you still win by racking up some Bonus Bucks to be used later.

Needless to say, the creators of Dropit have found an innovative way to change the way we shop… and the buzz is spreading! We’ve been told by our friends in New Zealand, where Dropit was founded, that they’ve already heard primetime radio ads for the new company. So next time you’re looking for the perfect gift, give your wallet and your blood pressure a break and check out

Just 3 months ago, we met Hunter Scarborough at a local event called the SoCal Domainers Meetup. This name might ring a bell for several #GenXYZ readers, because Hunter is the CEO of a recent #WebsiteWednesday, – also known as the matchmaking app for politics.

Since featuring this next generation app on our #WebsiteWednesday – which launched in September this year – Voter has gone off to quickly gain 30,000 users and caught the attention of huge publications like TechCrunch, Fast Company, and the Daily Dot.

Cars Domain Names The .Cars Registry

XYZ has done it again! We just launched .Cars, .Car, and .Auto – the complete line of new domains developed specifically for the automotive industry.

With this new portfolio of domains, automotive businesses can promote a portfolio of brands, market new vehicle models, connect customers with local lots, and perhaps one of the best reasons – to register their city name or geography.

Read the full story about .Cars / .Car / .Auto and check out some of our early adopters at the Go.Cars blog.

The XYZ mission is to bring choice, accessibility, and innovation to the internet with flexible naming options for small businesses, communities, and individuals around the world.

With the support of #GenXYZ, .xyz continues to pave the way as the most popular new domain. Even though we’re 1.5 years young with over 1.5 million domains registered, short and memorable .xyz domains are still very much available!

It was once thought that all the good domains would sell out immediately…but that’s not the case. It’s easy to forget that there are millions of short and marketable domains, and even great domains that were once registered just might become available for you to pick up and call your own.

This month, we’ve been honored to be part of two exciting hackathons from coast-to-coast: from Boston Hacks at Boston University, to the very far west at the University of Southern California’s HackSC. With apps, software, and websites all around us in our daily lives, it’s no wonder why so many students are striving to become the next best developer!

For this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’re highlighting, a free game developed by a Japanese small business that teaches elementary and middle school kids how to code. – Onamae customer (Japan)

With their mission to make learning code fun for all ages, developed an “action RPG” game to do just that. While it might look like a run-of-the-mill role-playing game, you have to get creative and “hack” the code to defeat your enemies and pass through roadblocks.

Established in 2014, Hack For Play hosts training programs for students and has already received awards for their innovative workshops. In a country where people use mobile devices a lot more than computers, it isn’t uncommon to find elementary and middle school kids who haven’t even learned how to type yet.

But through Hack For Play, they learn to swiftly navigate the keyboard, conquer their RPG stages by manipulating the code, and before you know it (and even the students themselves), they’ve become junior programmers!

The game itself is free for anyone through their website. What’s awesome is how the creators also host workshops for these pre-teen kids, and on occasion, even sessions where the kids partner up with their parents to conquer the slimes, dragons, and monsters with code.

Do you have what it takes to clear the stages of Test it out yourself and let us know how you fare – we’re all ears @XYZ.

We’ve blogged about different businesses and apps in the #GenXYZ community, so this week, we wanted to dive into the part that comes before the business: side projects!

Usually practiced outside of your day job, side projects are a great way to explore an interest, grow creatively, and fail without risks. But even with all of these benefits, so many side projects don’t end up crossing the finish line because of the lack of time or helping hands.

That’s where this week’s #WebsiteWednesday comes in. is a community that helps you find fellow sideprojecteers to collaborate with on your latest app, website, or business idea. (Australia)

Built on the Slack messaging platform, is an online community for anyone who wants to be involved in tech projects. It’s a dynamic hub to bounce around ideas, get involved in projects, seek feedback on prototypes, or even promote your final product.

Meta funfact: is itself a side project of Hyper, an Australian app development company that caters towards startups.

If you’re working on any side projects, we’d love to hear about them. Tweet at @xyz to share!

“.xyz is for every website, everywhere. We really mean that,” said our CEO Daniel Negari in his blog post addressing our strong support for free speech, privacy protection, and anti-censorship.

Whether it’s by pioneering the process for Chinese registrants to get online for the first time or raising awareness for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, our goal here at XYZ is to allow YOU to have the web presence you’ve always wanted.

Despite speculation by the media, rest assured that we will NOT censor your domains. The “banned list” that supposedly blocks or from being registered? That doesn’t exist. Don’t believe us? Try visiting the websites yourself.

We’re very excited about the progress we have made to soon become accredited in China. This will make .xyz one of the very first new domain extensions that can actually be used by the people of China. With our goal of bringing the next generation of internet users online, this is a huge step forward for us.

As an organization who truly supports freedom of speech and anti-censorship for #GenXYZ and all internet users around the world, we want to formally state and stand strong alongside what we believe.

Check out CEO Daniel Negari’s article, and be sure to “like” the post if you also support freedom of speech for all.
