Irys incorporates a multi-ledger architecture that supports data transitions from temporary validation to permanent storage. A system of ingress proofs and metadata is used to establish verifiability. IrysVM, the platform’s virtual machine, is designed to enable smart contracts to interact directly with stored data—supporting programmable and adaptable data within applications. These features are intended to support use cases involving provenance, traceability, and automated execution, including applications that intersect with AI-generated or manipulated data.

Founder Josh Benaron leads Irys in developing scalable datachain infrastructure

Irys is founded by Josh Benaron, who currently serves as CEO. According to his LinkedIn profile, Josh launched Irys in 2021 following roles as a consultant at technology and advisory consultancy VantagePoint and an intern at Found, a marketing agency focused on search performance. Under his leadership, Irys continues to focus on developing scalable infrastructure intended to support programmable onchain data and increase data accessibility across decentralized ecosystems.
