Tech company Starship.xyz from Skype co-founders brings its total raised capital to $230 million

Starship.xyzGoDaddy customer – (United States)

Starship.xyz is the online home of Starship Technologies, a tech company revolutionizing autonomous robot delivery. We first featured the innovative company, founded by Skype co-founders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis, back in 2016. Since then, Starship Technologies has continued to reshape the last-mile delivery industry with its fleet of autonomous delivery robots. These land-based robots, equipped with GPS, cameras, and gyroscopes, autonomously navigate city streets to deliver packages directly to customers’ doorsteps. Since its launch in 2014, Starship’s robots have traveled over 11 million miles and completed over six million autonomous deliveries worldwide. Starship Technologies addresses major challenges in the logistics industry and reduces carbon emissions by offering a cost-effective, ethical, and sustainable solution for last-mile delivery.

In February 2024, Starship Technologies announced a $90 million funding round, bringing its total raised capital to $230 million. 1Co-led by Plural and Iconical, this investment underscores Starship’s position as a leader in autonomous last-mile delivery. With over six million autonomous deliveries completed worldwide, as highlighted on Starship.xyz, their fleet of delivery robots has transformed the logistics industry by offering a cost-effective and sustainable solution. Starship plans to enhance its technology and expand its delivery infrastructure internationally by implementing advanced AI and machine learning. Additionally, the company introduced groundbreaking wireless charging for its robots, enabling them to recharge autonomously between deliveries. This innovation further streamlines the last-mile delivery process and aligns with Starship’s vision of creating a fully autonomous system. This highlights The Engine’s commitment to fostering innovation that addresses pressing societal issues.

In 2022, The Engine expanded its support for tough tech startups with the launch of The Engine Accelerator, a state-of-the-art facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts. 2Spanning four floors and 150,000 square feet, the Accelerator provides startups with specialized lab equipment, advanced machining capabilities, fabrication facilities, and office space. The Engine Accelerator aims to cultivate a vibrant community of tough tech innovators dedicated to making a meaningful impact on a global scale by providing essential resources, educational workshops, and networking opportunities. In April 2024, technology-based economic development firm Waymaker Group joined forces with The Engine to support the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) in fostering innovation. Through a three-year funding plan committing $9.5 million, the NSF aims to establish and manage the NSF Regional Innovation Engines Builder Platform, with Dallas-based Waymaker Group serving as the operational and services partner.
