Post-ICANN, pumpkin spiced everything, and with Halloween just around the corner, it’s finally starting to feel like fall here in LA! #GenXYZ, what will you be for Halloween this year?
It might be because of the much anticipated sweater weather, but we’re in the mood to give the usual #WebsiteWednesday a little twist. In fact, we won’t be featuring any websites at all!
You’d think that at .xyz, websites are our bread and butter, but we wanted to share with you one of the other most popular ways to use your awesome .xyz domain.
For those of you who follow our CEO and Founder Daniel Negari’s blog, you’re already in the know that celebrity NASCAR racer, Kyle Busch, uses kylebusch.xyz as a cool branded URL in his tweets. If you saw a tweet with kylebusch.xyz/ABC vs. bit.ly/ABC, which would you want to click more? We agree. kylebusch.xyz, hands down.

The Garrigan Lyman Group (GLG)
GLG is a digital marketing agency using glg.xyz as its URL shortener. Currently, they’re promoting glg.xyz/_loveli for one of their most successful campaigns, ever.
To honor Li Na’s retirement from the professional tennis spotlight, Babolat and GLG schemed a viral social media campaign for fans to take part in celebrating her successful career (she was ranked #2 in the entire WORLD and has two Grand Slam titles in her back pocket: the French and Australian Opens).
Through the hashtag #LoveLi, the campaign launched with a bang and received over 50 million impressions in just five days. Now, that count has grown to 67 million!
It’s still not too late to participate! Check out glg.xyz/_loveli for the deets.
Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA)
DCA is home to two contemporary art galleries, a cinema, print studio, and a visual research center. As hosts of an ongoing calendar of events and exhibits, DCA uses dca.xyz to promote its events via Twitter, as well as on their website’s event listings to encourage sharing.

How much easier is it to share with friends and family when the link is so short and sweet? Have you noticed any .xyz domains in your social media feeds lately?
Well, #GenXYZ, that’s all we have in store for today.
Oh! ICYMI, yours truly was featured in yet another CNET article, nicely titled “From .coffee to .email to .xyz: The Web’s crazy new reality is here.” Make sure to follow us on the usual social media channels @xyz and keep tabs on all the exciting things coming up!
It’s Day 3 of #ICANN51 and Team XYZ is working extra hard for you, #GenXYZ. We’re meeting with our amazing business partners so we can continue to build .xyz as the most popular, go-to ending for YOUR domain. In the midst of back-to-back meetings, panels, and events, we like to take a quick little mental break by exploring these fun, interactive .xyz websites.
For this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’re excited to share these awesomely quirky, fun-to-browse-through .xyz websites. With so many new websites appearing in the wild, we can easily spend days clicking through them all!
does.xyz is a whimsical site that combines our love of quizzes with a clever use of a domain name. Currently live is “Does Gary Sinise”, where you’re invited to answer trivia questions about Gary Sinise.
By the looks of it, “Does Nick Cage” will be added to the arsenal soon. Brush up on your Nicolas Cage knowledge before the new quiz comes out!
Why do we love quizzes so much? never.xyz takes a more personal angle on the quiz and asks you “Never Have I Ever” questions. This site goes the extra mile by incorporating a live poll, letting us see how others have answered their “Never Have I Ever”s (anonymously, of course).
And last, but certainly not least:
Go ahead, try it out. This super simple site will show you a random phobia with the tap of the button.
Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia? That’s the fear of long words. Needless to say, it’s an excellent site where you can arm yourself with a few conversation starters. I wonder if hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia.xyz is available… (find out at www.gen.xyz).
With so many great ICANN meetings under our belt, there will be lots to update you on, #GenXYZ! Keep your eyes peeled and ears open for anything .xyz that will be happening near you :) And the best way to keep tabs on us? Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter @xyz for all the behind-the-scenes goodness here at the XYZ headquarters.
Hey there, #GenXYZ!
— XYZ (@xyz) October 13, 2014
For those of you who follow us on Twitter, you already know that we’ve been preparing for ICANN’s huge conference in Los Angeles that began yesterday. THOUSANDS of people are gathering from around the world to take part in ICANN’s conference to discuss major topics that affect the future of the internet. Yes, you heard right – the future of the internet! And of course, the entire Team XYZ will be front and center, all hands on deck, as the conference is taking place on our home turf.
What is ICANN, you ask? ICANN (we pronounce it “eye-can”) is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. In a nutshell, it’s the organization that oversees anything and everything on the domain name system and strives for a stable and unified global internet.
These conferences cover topics like new domain extensions, all the way to general internet outreach in emerging markets. Best of all, ICANN conferences are open to the public! If you’re interested in these topics (or just want to hang out with Team XYZ), stop by #ICANN51 in Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
What was your guess for the 555,555th .xyz domain, #GenXYZ?
The 555,555th .xyz registration was:
With all of the buzz we’ve been getting for having the most number of active websites, Team XYZ has also been receiving a lot of great questions about how to use your shiny new .xyz domain name.
We thought it’d be perfect to answer one of the most frequently asked questions with none other than a new edition of #WebsiteWednesday.
So, here is our most frequently asked question:
As an individual, what can I do with my .xyz domain name except having a blog?
An excellent way to use your .xyz domain is to show-off your ideas and skills. Are there any artists out there? Artists, photographers, architects, animators, writers? Your .xyz is the perfect platform to build your growing portfolio:
Moritz Resl is a multidisciplinary artist and designer from Vienna, Austria, based in New York City. He takes an innovative take on a portfolio and created an awesome site that’s interactive and eye-catching. It’s easy to spend a good chunk of time awing at his work on resl.xyz.
Resl’s work has been featured on Dezeen, Gizmodo, The New York Times, The Verge, and more. And he chose his .xyz website as the centerpiece to showcase his growing body of art.
Another popular way to use your .xyz domain name is as a custom email address that your entire family can enjoy. Just think. If a certain famous rapper registered West.xyz, he can match his daughter with [email protected] and [email protected]
Already registered your LastName.xyz? Check out XYZ101 for a step-by-step on how to set-up your snazzy new email address.
We have a lot in store for you this month. Hang tight! Until next time, #GenXYZ!
Time sure flies when you’re working on the next big thing. And it makes it all worthwhile when we see internet users everywhere with their .xyz domain names.
We might only be 4 months young, but .xyz continues to be the most popular and fastest growing new domain extension. According to the latest stats, there are 549,851 .xyz domains registered and 98,883 active .xyz websites.
That means we’re quickly approaching 100,000 ACTIVE .xyz websites!
That’s more than double our nearest competitor, meaning #GenXYZ, you’re leading the pack with creating amazing websites for everyone to enjoy.
As our CEO and Founder Daniel Negari pointed out, the success of a domain extension cannot be measured purely by registration numbers. What’s more important is to look at how the domains are actively being used by real people like you, #GenXYZ. You can read more about this on Daniel’s blog post titled: .xyz is the most used gTLD – Boooooooom!
On a fun sidenote, any guesses on what the 555,555th .xyz registration will be? Here are what some of us at the XYZ headquarters are thinking:
Ahoy there, #GenXYZ! (There seems to be some residual Talk Like a Pirate Day left in us.)
2014 continues to be a landmark year for the internet, with yet another HUGE milestone that we are proud to say we are part of.
Earlier this week, the internet hit the one billion website mark. One BILLION.
What was .xyz’s role in this, you ask? We first heard about this breaking news through a major outlet, which also gave .xyz an awesome shoutout. And a spot on The Washington Post! What did it say about us, #GenXYZ? The internet now has a billion websites, and “of those, domains ending in .xyz saw the greatest growth.”
So, it’s WashPost official: .xyz is seeing the greatest growth in the expansive internet universe. If you’re like us, it’s difficult to wrap your head around that big one billion number. Think about it this way. One second is easy to image – now how about one billion seconds? One billion seconds ago, it was 1983 – and that takes us aaall the way back to a time where there was no such thing as the internet.
As the number of websites keeps rising (you can check-out the live ticker at InternetLiveStats.com), so does the number of innovative new .xyz websites. Speaking of innovative new websites, we can’t forget about #WebsiteWednesday!
This week, we are very excited to introduce:
Originally Homeless-International.org, Reall is a UK-based organization that’s taking a truly unique approach to improve the housing conditions in slums across the world. By being the extra supportive backbone behind groups in these communities, Reall helps them out with everything from starting-up, technical support, all the way to achieving financial stability to keep them going on their own.
As an organization that takes such an innovative approach to helping these communities in Asia and Africa, they looked no further than choosing a .xyz domain to catapult their fresh rebrand. They wanted a new brand – and a matching domain name – to reflect their unique brand and stand out from the crowd. And that they did.
Reall’s vision is a world where everyone has access to basic services and housing. That’s definitely a world we’d like to see as well. Show your support by learning more at Reall.xyz and see how you can play a part in this amazing organization.
The fall has certainly kicked-off with a bang, and we have so many more exciting news to share with you, #GenXYZ! Don’t forget to follow us @xyz on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for all the nitty-gritty (and more) on us.
All the buzz these days is something near and dear to our hearts – and that’s the topic of Net Neutrality. Here at .xyz, our core mission to provide the most affordable and flexible domain extension is rooted in the same principles as Net Neutrality. Regardless of age, location, or interests, everyone should have equal access to the internet.
The internet is one of the world’s greatest inventions that allows us to connect, share ideas, conduct business, and even spur social change from our living room or a cafe. Here in the US, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is trying to set new rules that essentially give Internet Service Providers (like AT&T, Verizon, and Comcast) the ability to charge HUGE amounts of money in order to get faster internet. Equal access – the backbone of Net Neutrality – is taken away if this ruling goes through.
What does that mean for you, #GenXYZ? Say you’re ready to take your amazing new venture online. Today, you register your .xyz domain, build an awesome website, and start promoting your business. That’s the beauty of the internet – it makes it easy for individuals like Nader.xyz to showcase his portfolio, build his business, and get found online.
Now, if the new FCC rules are put into place, individuals and businesses will all of a sudden be asked to pay a premium for the bandwidth and service they already signed up for. That’s like waiting in line at the buffet and watching people cut in front of you because they tipped the server.
What do you do when a website doesn’t load for even 15 seconds?
….Exactly. You’ll move on. Unless you can shell out potentially big bucks, visitors will turn away from your site because the faster internet speeds will be reserved for the guys that are willing to pay more for it.
The FCC accepted public comments and almost 3.7 million poured in (that’s equal to the entire population of Los Angeles)! And the majority are in support of Net Neutrality. Join us, #GenXYZ, in fighting for Net Neutrality. First step? Visit SaveTheInternet.com to learn more and take action.
We promise to continue to offer .xyz as the most affordable and flexible domain extension for every website, everywhere, so YOU have the power to shape and grow your place on the internet. As the only global domain extension that gives unlimited choice to individuals and businesses alike, Net Neutrality is what we strive for.
In support of Net Neutrality,
Happy Wednesday, #GenXYZ!
We’re back to showcasing some of the amazing .xyz websites in the wild, and we’re delivering a special installment this week. We’re kicking off the fall with #WebsiteWednesday: International Edition.
One of the greatest things about the internet is how it connects people without hopping on a plane. Our first stop? Japan.
Brought to you by the mobile gaming giant, DeNA, is www.rumor.xyz. DeNA runs the largest mobile social networking platform with over 30 million users – and they’re introducing their freshest app (only 3 days old) with a .xyz domain name.
It reminds us a bit of Whisper, but it throws in the “social” aspect of social media that we all love. Ever feel like anonymously sharing a little secret or asking your friends something to see their reaction? Rumor lets you do just that. Check-out their promotional video for a glimpse into the newest app in Japan!
Our next stop is…Romania (did you see that coming?)
Advertigo is a modern branding and advertising agency that specializes in the building materials market. Their expertise in architecture and construction shines through in their sleek, newly designed website.
Even though they’re based in Romania, their reach is massive – their audience includes English, German, Romanian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Russian, AND Chinese speakers. They’re also part of the E3 International Agency Network, which brings together the brightest in branding and communication from over 30 countries.
We have a lot in store for the fall, so stay tuned and drop us a line through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. And last but not least, we’d like to give a special shout out to all of our Facebook followers. Each and every one of you helped us leap over the 3,000 follower milestone! Here’s to many more to come.
Hey there, #GenXYZ. We can’t believe August is almost wrapping up and Fall is right around the corner. What was the highlight of your summer? Ours was hands down launching .xyz in June, and watching it continue to expand as the world’s largest and fastest growing new domain extension. And that’s all thanks to your support, #GenXYZ!
As we’re getting a little nostalgic this time of week (it must be all the #tbt going on), we can’t think of a more appropriate time to walk down memory lane. And we’re taking it way back.
We know infographics are all the rage, so we took it a step further. Team XYZ is very excited to present our #tbt timeline infographic (timelinographic? infographline?): the Past, Present and Future of the Internet.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together! After you throw down some impressive statistics about #selfies to your friends, don’t forget to spread the rest of the knowledge by sharing the infographic high and wide (conveniently with that link, just for you).
What are some other awesome facts about the internet that you know? Send us some nuggets of information through the usual social media channels of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We always look forward to hearing from you!

Great news, #GenXYZ! While we’ve been highlighting awesome .xyz websites the past few weeks, we also wanted to break the news of a huge milestone that we hit with one of our innovative registrar partners, Hover. Hover is part of the Tucows family and is famous for their no-fuss and top-notch customer support.
It started earlier this month, when Hover kicked-off a special .xyz promotion:
We’ve got .xyz domains for just $5! Don’t mean to boast, but that’s the lowest price around. Search for yours: https://t.co/6WiWiZq5Yb
— Hover (@hover) August 1, 2014
There was an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from Hover’s customers and after the first week of the promotion, we debuted on their Top 20 gTLDs list at #7. When the second week rolled around, we hopped over a couple to #5. And then the third week happened…and tweet! We wake up to the sweet sound of a Twitter notification that:
— Hover (@hover) August 18, 2014
According to Michael from Hover, “For the first time, the #2 spot is not being taken up by the classic TLDs .ORG or .NET, with newcomer .XYZ taking over that coveted spot.”
To say that taking over the #2 position from .net and .org is “big news” is an understatement. We’re still shy of 3 months old and we’re quickly proving that we can play ball with the big players.
We had a feeling that great things were happening when a giant like Hover, believed enough in .xyz to offer their customers such an amazing promotion. And even more rewarding is seeing live websites from users who bought their .xyz domains at Hover like www.chs.xyz (which we featured in last week’s #WebsiteWednesday).
We’re excited to be working with our awesome partners to grow #GenXYZ, and we can’t wait to break more news and world records with them!
Welcome to the next generation of the internet.
