2to3.xyz – InterNetX customer – (Germany)
Teams across the blockchain ecosystem use .xyz to build infrastructure that supports the movement, coordination, and representation of digital assets. Blockchain payments firm Obita.xyz develops infrastructure for global fiat and stablecoin transactions. Blockchain firm Borderless.xyz develops financial infrastructure for cross-border payments. Liquidity hub Blackhole.xyz develops tools designed to support liquidity coordination and community participation. In this week’s #BlockchainThursday, we’ll introduce you to an initiative from registrar InterNetX exploring how traditional DNS domains can be represented and transacted onchain: 2to3.xyz.
2to3.xyz is an initiative from InterNetX, a domain industry company that operates as part of the IONOS Group and manages a portfolio of more than 22 million domains. The initiative focuses on how traditional DNS domains can be represented on blockchain networks while remaining DNS-compliant. According to 2to3.xyz, the project explores domain tokenization and what it describes as “DomainDeFi,” a framework designed to connect domains with blockchain-based financial infrastructure. 2to3.xyz functions as a resource page explaining how domains can gain an additional onchain representation layer without altering their existing DNS status.
According to 2to3.xyz, domain tokenization introduces a representation layer that mirrors a traditional DNS domain as a token on a blockchain.
The initiative states that this structure supports use cases such as:
The website explains that domains function within the registry and registrar DNS framework. Tokenization adds a blockchain-based representation layer, it does not replace DNS infrastructure.
We spoke with Elias Rendon Benger of InterNetX about the project and the decision to launch the initiative on a .xyz domain.
“Before we talk about numbers, it’s worth noticing a cultural reality: .xyz has become a recognizable signal for ‘building what’s next.’ Gen.xyz‘s own community content regularly highlights how crypto and frontier-tech teams use .xyz to position themselves as innovative and forward-looking.”
He also referenced industry data:
“That community signal is increasingly backed by market data. InterNetX & Sedo’s Global Domain Report 2026 noted that new gTLDs were a major driver of growth in 2025. The report showed new gTLDs growing 29.9% YoY and highlighted .xyz as the most registered new gTLD.”
Simone Catania, Global Content & Communications Manager at InterNetX, connected that trend to the positioning of 2to3.xyz:
“For a project like 2to3.xyz, that context matters because .xyz has effectively become a home base for Web3: a huge share of Web3 brand-building, experimentation, and community-first products already live in the .xyz space. When teams launch new models for identity, onchain assets, and decentralized coordination, they often choose .xyz as their default ‘digital ground’—a namespace that signals future-facing intent without the baggage of legacy expectations.”
He also noted alignment with the extension’s broader positioning:
“That aligns with the extension’s original positioning too: an open, globally usable namespace connecting Generations X, Y, and Z—short, flexible, and not tied to any single category or language. That ‘open canvas’ is a natural fit for an initiative that’s literally about bridging eras.”
Domains are established digital assets within the DNS system. 2to3.xyz presents one model for how those assets can be mirrored on blockchain networks. The initiative outlines how a tokenized representation can coexist with existing infrastructure. It describes this structure as a way to connect domains with blockchain-based financial systems.
