Indie gaming platform KOMPETE.Game unites competitive multiplayer games in a single account. Award-winning racing series Drive.Game brings multi-platform rally racing to the #DRIVE franchise. Today, we highlight an indie action-adventure roguelike expanding the UnderMine franchise: UnderMine2.Game.
UnderMine2.Game is the online home of UnderMine 2, an action-adventure roguelike developed by Thorium, an independent game studio. A “roguelike” is a video game genre (named after the 1980 game Rogue) built around procedural level generation and permanent death, where losing requires starting over from the beginning. UnderMine 2 entered Early Access on July 22, 2025, as a sequel to Thorium’s original UnderMine (UnderMine.Game), which launched into Early Access in 2019 and reached a full 1.0 release in 2020. According to UnderMine2.Game, gameplay involves exploring the Undermine, fighting enemies, collecting and combining powerful relics, and crafting or transforming items to improve their character over repeated runs. As shown on the game’s update roadmap, Thorium continues to update the game through Early Access. On August 11, 2026, Thorium released the Demon Rivals update, introducing Tendency, a system that tracks the balance of power between two rival demons, Sho’guul and Order, and affects which of the two players may encounter during a run.
The website highlights UnderMine 2’s Arcana system, described as a set of interactive relics that each add a new ability to a character, from “casting fireballs to summoning skeleton minions to rearranging time and space.” According to UnderMine2.Game, players can discover, unlock, and play as characters like Black Rabbit, alongside the returning Peasant, with each character offering upgrades and interactions. The website also describes the Well as a never-ending challenge, located at the bottom of the UnderMine, where players face escalating enemies and bosses. UnderMine2.Game notes that the game includes full mod and Steam Workshop support, with tools such as paintable tilesets and a visual scripting editor for building custom items, characters, and encounters. The Demon Rivals update added the following aspects:
Derek Johnson and Clint Tasker founded Thorium in 2015. As Derek describes on UnderMine.Game, he is a software engineer from Vancouver, British Columbia, who previously worked at game studio Relic before co-founding Thorium. Clint, in his bio on UnderMine.Game, describes himself as a game designer from Seattle who met Derek at Relic and has worked across AAA console, PC, and mobile development before going independent as Thorium’s co-founder. The pair describe leaving professional game development roles to pursue indie development, with UnderMine and its sequel serving as a way to communicate directly with players.1 Thorium’s team also includes Courtland Winslow as Art Director, according to UnderMine2.Game.
UnderMine 2 continues to develop through Early Access, expanding relic combinations, branching paths, and content through ongoing updates. The UnderMine2.Game domain pairs the game’s name directly with .Game, creating a short, descriptive domain name that immediately identifies the website with gaming. The availability of .Game gave UnderMine2 the ability to find an available domain built around its full name rather than requiring an alternative or less descriptive address. You can learn more by following the game on Instagram @undermine_game, joining the Discord, and visiting UnderMine2.Game.
