For any math whizz, the combination of “X”, “Y”, and “Z” means much more than the last three letters of the English alphabet. In analytic geometry, x and y-axes are joined by a third, z, to create the coordinates of a three-dimensional space, making .xyz the perfect domain ending for this week’s website Wednesday: Womp.xyz.
Womp.xyz is a new Brooklyn-based 3D printing studio that aims to bring 3D technology to the masses. A group of artists and designers founded the startup in order to empower the everyday person with technology normally limited to industry professionals. With their personalized service and DIY 3D modeling approach, even the most technologically challenged person can transform an idea into a 3D reality.
In order to start a project, simply email firstname.lastname@example.org a description of your object’s form and function, and their custom software will generate a 3D model you can preview and modify. You can also send a physical object in the mail to their studio for scanning. Once you have created your 3D model, select from over 80 materials to print from (including plastic, metals, and ceramics), and check out. Soon, customers will also get full access to their custom software on Womp.xyz, so customers can build and modify their 3D model in real time.
The privately owned startup has already raised over $300,000 from investors, and were one of the finalists of entrepreneur grant program Startup Runway. Head to Womp.xyz to make your 3D printing dreams a reality, or follow @wompxyz on Facebook and Twitter if you need some 3D tech ideas and inspiration first.
