The .xyz community is home to imaginative innovators who are pioneering the web3 landscape. Community platform TheHug.xyz is designed to embrace all web3 creators, including underrepresented groups in web3 like women, LGBTQ+ folks, non-native English speakers, and people with various racial and ethnic backgrounds, in hopes of building “the inclusiverse.” Los Angeles-based startup JoinClutch.xyz is aimed at humanizing crypto and empowering more women to enter the web3 space. NFT artist Pplpleasr’s Shibuya.xyz aims to revolutionize film distribution. In this week’s #BlockchainThursday, we’ll introduce you to a women-led website aimed at helping crypto and non-crypto natives explore the world of fine art NFTs: Tonic.xyz.
Tonic.xyz is the online home of Tonic, a new gallery platform that presents highly curated generative art on the blockchain for art and design enthusiasts. Generative art is a type of digital art produced by artists who code programs that create unique pieces in a semi-autonomous manner. The platform aims to create a safe and welcoming space for both crypto and non-crypto natives to learn about and collect fine art NFTs that bridge the digital and physical worlds. Tonic.xyz‘s genesis collection, The Chromesthesia: Ascend collection from Design Milk founder and artist Jaime Derringer, launched on January 31, 2023. In this body of work, Jaime experiments with generative creation to explore the phenomenon of experiencing colors in response to certain sounds and other stimuli.1
A primary goal of Tonic.xyz is to make web3 technology more accessible and less intimidating for those unfamiliar with it. To achieve this, the platform offers a familiar eCommerce experience design, credit card payments, a provisional wallet service, white-glove concierge services, and optional physical prints.
Co-founder and CEO Susannah Maybank has extensive career experience in the fine art world, most recently as Head of Digital at Gagosian, a contemporary art gallery. Co-founder and Chairman of the Board Mariam Naficy is an entrepreneur with over 20 years of operating experience. Mariam previously founded design marketplace Minted and online makeup company Eve, which she sold to Idealab for $110 million.2 The company is also supported by a team of 10 founding partners including prominent designer Yves Behar, entrepreneur Brit Morin, and renowned architect India Mahdavi.
