Unique platforms and communities use .xyz domains to create dynamic and impactful online experiences. Neurotechnology platform Science.xyz specializes in brain-computer interface technology. Creative directory platform Erria.xyz connects global talent across craft, art, and design. Startup investing platform GetPin.xyz aims to democratize the investment landscape. In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to a platform that celebrates creative workspaces and desk setups from professionals around the globe: Workspaces.xyz.

Workspaces.xyz: Celebrating the art of creative desk setups

Workspaces.xyz is the online home of Workspaces, a platform that highlights the design and functionality of workspaces. Curated by Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based creative Ryan Gilbert, the platform publishes a weekly newsletter every Saturday, sharing newly featured workspaces from other creative professionals, including designers, developers, and entrepreneurs. The idea for Workspaces emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as remote work became widespread. Ryan observed an increase in social media posts showcasing home desk setups. This trend inspired him to create Workspaces as a way to collect and share these setups with others. In January 2022, it gained recognition on Product Hunt, where it was highlighted as the “#1 Side Project Product of the Year.”1

As stated on Workspaces.xyz, the platform has over 14,000 subscribers and has featured more than 450 workspaces since its launch on April 5, 2020. Workspaces.xyz provides several resources for its community:

  • Weekly newsletters: Enter your email to subscribe, and receive new editions every Saturday featuring creative and functional workspaces. Each newsletter explores the stories, tools, and setups of the individuals featured.
  • Past Issues: Workspaces.xyz includes an archive of all past newsletters, enabling visitors to browse previously featured setups.

Featured workspaces: A closer look

The platform explores both the practical and personal elements of each workspace. Here are two examples:

1. Richard Hodson – Content Manager from Bristol, England
Richard’s workspace blends functionality with personal touches, creating a setup that supports both his professional tasks and personal passions.

  • Hardware highlights: A 27” 1440p display, Logitech G715 wireless keyboard, SteelSeries Aerox 3 mouse, and an OMEN PC with 32GB RAM, a 1TB SSD, and RTX 3060 GPU. He also uses a 13” MacBook Pro, iPad mini, and AirPods Pro (2nd generation).
  • Design aesthetics: Richard favors a clean, cohesive look, featuring white peripherals like his keyboard, mouse, and Xbox controller.
  • Work-life balance: He wraps up work by 5 PM, maintaining a clear boundary between professional and personal time.
  • Creativity boosters: Morning walks or runs kickstart his day, while engaging with creative minds on social media keeps the inspiration flowing.

Richard’s setup is a testament to balancing productivity and personal flair, demonstrating how thoughtful design and intentional habits can create a truly inspiring workspace.

2. Shane Levine – Founder and Product Designer from Brooklyn, NY
Shane’s workspace showcases his passion for design and creativity, combining practicality with a touch of personal style.

  • Hardware highlights: Shane relies on an LG UltraFine 27” display, a MacBook Pro, and Apple Keyboard and Trackpad for his design work. His setup also includes an Autonomous Eureka Standing Desk, an ergonomic chair, and accessories like AirPods Max and a Lamicall aluminum stand.
  • Design aesthetics: His workspace features a mix of modern elements, including an Eames-style chair in a bold color, a Lego Porsche, and a Chinatown Market basketball, adding personality to the clean and functional setup.
  • Daily routine: Shane spends his mornings collaborating with his design team and meeting clients. After lunch in Brooklyn with his girlfriend, he dives into focused design work in the afternoons.
  • Creativity boosters: Shane stays inspired by curating designs he admires on Pinterest and engaging with design communities. These practices help him refine his aesthetic and stay connected to industry trends.

Shane’s workspace is a reflection of his design philosophy—functional, inspiring, and infused with character—making it a space where creativity thrives.

Meet Founder Ryan Gilbert

Ryan Gilbert founded Workspaces in 2020 and has guided its growth ever since. In 2022, he sold Workspaces to email marketing platform Loops and joined their team as Head of Content, where he led content strategy and development. In May 2024, Ryan re-acquired Workspaces to continue its mission under his leadership. Before his role at Loops, Ryan supported creators and innovators as a Community Support Manager at Product Hunt. He also developed engaging content strategies during his contract work with AI-focused tech company Heyday (later acquired by mental health and coaching startup BetterUp).

Workspaces.xyz: Showcasing creativity with a modern online presence

Workspaces.xyz provides a platform for exploring how people design and use their workspaces. The platform’s .xyz domain aligns with its goals of inclusivity and innovation. Known for its versatility, .xyz supports Workspaces’ mission to present creative setups from diverse professionals while maintaining a modern and approachable online presence. A key advantage of selecting a .xyz domain is its modern appeal, which often means wider availability of matching social media handles. This availability helps Workspaces.xyz use @workspacesxyz as a brand-consistent handle for social media. We had the opportunity to speak with Ryan about his decision to build Workspaces on .xyz. As he told us,

“.XYZ was a no-brainer when choosing a domain for my newsletter that catered to a tech-focused audience. It stands out. It’s easy to remember. And despite possible misconceptions, it still ranks well and is a better option than tacking on a random filler word before your actual brand to secure the .com.”
