Blockchain developers use .xyz domains to build platforms designed for the future of finance. Financial infrastructure platform Velocity.xyz bridges traditional finance and digital assets through stablecoin payments. Bitcoin mining initiative Proto.xyz develops modular hardware and open-source management software. Stablecoin platform Ubyx.xyz aims to standardize redemption and expand adoption across traditional finance. In this week’s #BlockchainThursday, we’ll introduce you to a project focused on building a stablecoin infrastructure blockchain for global payments: Tempo.xyz.

Introducing Tempo.xyz: A blockchain built for stablecoins and real-world payments

Tempo.xyz is the online home of Tempo, a payments-focused layer 1 blockchain incubated by global payments technology company Stripe and Paradigm.xyz, a crypto-focused investment firm. Announced in September 2025, Tempo is purpose-built for stablecoins and real-world payments. According to its launch announcement, the blockchain is designed to support a broad range of payment use cases, including global payouts, payroll, remittances, microtransactions, and agentic payments—transactions conducted autonomously by AI agents. Unlike many blockchains that launch with their own native tokens, Tempo accepts stablecoins as payment for transaction fees.

Designing for scale: Tempo’s features and partnerships in the payments landscape

Tempo introduces design features intended to address the needs of high-volume payment flows. The blockchain offers predictable low fees, sub-second transaction finality, and throughput exceeding 100,000 transactions per second. It is EVM-compatible and built on Reth, which helps developers build using familiar tools. Tempo incorporates opt-in privacy features, stablecoin neutrality, and a built-in automated market maker for stablecoin payments. According to the project’s website, Tempo was created to fill a gap in existing blockchain infrastructure, which has often been designed for general-purpose or trading-focused applications rather than payments. Initial design partners include organizations from finance, ecommerce, and technology such as Anthropic, Deutsche Bank, DoorDash, Nubank, OpenAI, Revolut, Shopify, Standard Chartered, and Visa.

Leadership and development: Matt Huang of Paradigm.xyz guides Tempo’s launch

Tempo is led by Matt Huang, co-founder and managing partner of Paradigm.xyz, who also serves as a board member at Stripe. In a September 4, 2025 article on Fortune Crypto, it was reported that Matt Huang will continue his role at Paradigm.xyz while directing the development of Tempo, supported by an initial team of about 15 employees. The project is also being shaped through collaboration with independent validator partners and design contributors across banking, fintech, and commerce sectors.1
