Web3-focused businesses are building their online homes on .xyz domains. Blockchain-based music technology company Formless.xyz is aimed at changing the way music and other digital content is valued and distributed. Kenya-based company Mara.xyz strives to empower more Africans to enter the world of crypto. Venture capital firm Paradigm.xyz is co-founded by Forbes-featured billionaire Fred Ehrsam and is focused on investing in web3-based companies. In this week’s #BlockchainThursday, we’ll introduce you to a blockchain software development company aimed at advancing global economic freedom: Fun.xyz.
Fun.xyz is the online home of Fun, a blockchain software development company that strives to leverage new blockchain technology to advance global economic freedom. The company is working in partnership with the Odsy.xyz blockchain network, a secure and programmable decentralized access control layer to all of web3, to build cross-chain wallet infrastructure. Their aim is to empower developers with the foundational components for new wallet APIs and protocols to provide seamless experiences for their customers. In October 2022, Fun.xyz raised $3.9 million to build a full product ecosystem. Backing venture capital funds include Tinder co-founder Justin Mateen’s Jam Fund, Soma Ventures, and Nomo Ventures.1
On October 27, 2022, Fun.xyz shared their motivation and thoughts on smart wallets in a series of Tweets. The San Francisco-based company believes that smart wallets have limitations because they can only be used on one blockchain. They aim to solve the pain point that smart wallets cannot fully control funds without manual transactions or a central custodian. Fun.xyz believes the solution to this problem is cross-chain infrastructure, which is being developed by the Odsy.xyz network.2
Fun.xyz is founded by former Meta machine learning engineer Mario Baxter and 23-year-old Stanford University graduate Alex Fine. Alex believes the .xyz domain is a great option for innovative businesses. As he explained to us,
“To us, xyz stands as a subtle rebellion against the status quo. While it’s equally (if not more) memorable than a legacy TLD, it also conjures feelings of mystery, excitement and innovation. Additionally, being at the end of the alphabet it has a similar feeling of finality that you might find in the phrase ‘qed.’“
