The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, short MIT, recently named Katie Rae CEO for their Startup accelerator Engine.xyz. Katie has raised more than $400 million for accelerators in her previous roles and has been named “one of the most creative people in the business” by FastCompany for her work at Techstars. Katie truly is a powerhouse and a great example of the impactful role women play in pushing the technology industry forward.
KarenJWang.xyz – Network Solutions customer (United States)
Karen is a multi-talented .xyz adopter that we first highlighted back in December of last year. A graduate student in UI/UX at Bentley University, Karen has designed intuitive web pages for companies like Amazon and National Geographic. Besides her affinity for design she is a blogger for GoodMusicAllDay, teaches yoga, and creates original paintings and poetry. The passion for all the things she does can be felt throughout KarenJWang.xyz and will surely inspire many more women.

Founded by Sue Brett, LearningOnline.xyz is a language learning platform that offers lessons for dozens of languages through their unique collaborative learning products. After a busy January, the XYZ Team finally got a chance to catch their breath before hosting an event of our own later this month. However, that doesn’t mean that we didn’t go anywhere in February! Check out our RSA recap and a list of events to look forward to in March.
The RSA Conference took place in San Francisco last month, and Team XYZ was in attendance representing .Security and .Protection domains. RSA is one of the leading cyber-security conferences in the world, with over 45,000 security professionals in attendance this year.
The event gave the XYZ Team a chance to meet with businesses and industry insiders about the benefits and best practices for .Security and .Protection. More importantly, this was an opportunity for XYZ to further establish itself in the cyber-security space. It’s already well-known that XYZ takes a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of abuse, including spamming, phishing, malware, and other illegal activities. But did you know that .xyz has a lower abuse score than TLDs like .com, .net, and .info? In fact, according to nTLDstats, there is less than 0.03% abuse in the .xyz zone!

We’re very proud of the industry-leading abuse mitigation tool we’ve developed and couldn’t help but to show it off to some of the experts we met at RSA. South by Southwest (SXSW) is just around the corner, and the #XYZsquad is gearing up to take over the streets of Austin once again. You might have seen these purple people in the past on the news, at parties, or even leading the SXSW parade.
This year, the #XYZsquad will be handing out thousands of 3D glasses for our exclusive 3D Lab. Best of all, everyone has a chance to win free prizes just by solving the riddles! We also have a festival-wide scavenger hunt in the works that will be taking place throughout Downtown Austin, along with some other new tricks up our purple suit sleeves.

At the same time that the #XYZsquad is air-flaring and parkouring at SXSW, ICANN 58 will be taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark. Shayan Rostam will be there to meet with registrars and resellers to discuss our next big marketing campaign, as well as share other exciting news about our domains.

Following ICANN, we will be hosting the first ever SoCal Domainers + Southern California Cybersecurity Professionals meetup. Although this is the third time we are hosting the event since 2015, it will be the first one since Shepard Fairey and Risk did an original mural on our building.

Last week, we covered FastForward.xyz, a convention discussing the effects of technology on the future of the music industry. With this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we want to bring music to your ears by showcasing an example of an online radio station that recently rebranded to connect to the next generation of music listeners. Meet XtraRadio.xyz!
XtraRadio.xyz is a free online radio station from the Netherlands. Previously on XtraRadio.nl, they transitioned to a .xyz domain and expanded their reach to a more global audience. XtraRadio plays all of the latest hits nonstop throughout the day and casts two live shows – ‘Patrick On Air’ and ‘Covers with Mike Adams’. Between Patrick and Mike, there are years of experience in both radio and TV. Having worked for companies like VH1, Tribune, and iHeartRadio, Mike Adams has even interviewed stars like Kanye West, Steven Tyler and Aaron Eckhart.

FastForward.xyz – Hexonet customer (United Kingdom)
Few industries have had to adapt more to changes to consumer behavior than the music industry. The way music is produced, distributed, sold and bought has undergone transformational change, leaving industry players with little time to catch up and collaborate. This week’s #WebsiteWednesday connects young professionals and established music industry executives alike at a conference that is helping to shape the future of the music industry – FastForward.xyz.
FastForward is an annual conference held in Amsterdam that brings together the future leaders of the music industry, with an average age of 35 or younger. The convention features keynote speeches, panel discussions, and presentations from rising industry stars, like Fred Bolza of Sony Music, Emily Lovell of Warner Music Group, and Cherie Hu of Forbes, amongst others. All of the discussion topics deal with where the industry is headed, and how to innovate beyond their traditional markets.

Technology in general is a main topic at 2017’s FastForward, and several experts will be speaking on the impacts that emerging tech like augmented and virtual reality will have on the music industry. Their ‘Fast Fifteen’ presentations have also become a hallmark of the conference. They are quick and thorough fifteen minute discussions by industry experts on emerging trends in the different aspects of music and technology – ranging from topics like social media to vocalistic style.
After learning about FastForward.xyz, we couldn’t help but draw parallels to Deloitte’s own leadership communities like Exponentials.xyz and FutureFin.xyz, which we covered in March 2016 and earlier this month. It’s only fitting that FastForward chose to take their community a step further by helping global leaders connect in-person. And like .xyz, FastForward is providing a platform for innovators to develop and share their forward-thinking ideas. By doing so, FastForward.xyz and other members of #GenXYZ are making big strides in shaping our future.
