Square, Inc., the parent company of popular services such as Cash App, Square credit card reader, and Bitcoin-focused Spiral.xyz, rebranded to Block.xyz to indicate their intention of continued expansion. Kenya-based web3 company Mara upgraded to Mara.xyz as part of its mission to help increase the number of Africans who can participate in the crypto economy. Collectible trading card platform Alt upgraded to Alt.xyz as they expanded their alternative assets platform to include options for buying, selling, storing, and borrowing against valuable trading cards. In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to a newly rebranded global investment firm with a focus on crypto projects: Dragonfly.xyz.
Dragonfly.xyz is the online home of newly named crypto investment firm Dragonfly (previously Dragonfly Capital Partners). As stated on their website, the San Francisco-based Dragonfly.xyz backs teams building generational companies and products in crypto across sectors and stages. The firm’s global team works with crypto founders in all stages of development on protocols, exchanges, apps, and more. They particularly enjoy backing teams working on “something weird” and pushing the boundaries of the industry. Founded in 2018, the firm’s investment portfolio includes blockchain platform Near Protocol, lending platform MakerDAO, and blockchain-focused innovation lab Matter Labs. Dragonfly.xyz has raised a total of $950M across four funds. The latest fund, Dragonfly Fund III, was announced on April 27, 2022 and raised a total of $650M.1 On August 15, 2022, Dragonfly.xyz announced their acquisition of MetaStable Capital, a crypto asset hedge fund that was originally founded in 2014 and boasts crypto projects such as Ethereum and blockchain network Cosmos as some of its early investments.2 At the same time, the firm also introduced their newly rebranded name, logo, and hacker-inspired website. In an effort to signal a global presence and deep technical expertise, the firm upgraded their domain from DCP.capital to the memorable and universally friendly Dragonfly.xyz.

Managing Partner Haseeb Qureshi shared more information about Dragonfly.xyz’s rebranding in a post on the firm’s Medium profile. “We’re dropping the ‘Capital’ from our name, and our new look is more crypto-native, inspired by the hackers and weirdos (we say with love!) who have built this industry from the ground up. Our aesthetic is less Patagonia, more ASCII; less stock photo, more glitch art. Check it out at our new domain, Dragonfly.xyz.”3 Haseeb also explains that he wants to bring attention to the company’s deep technical experience, because crypto is advanced by technological breakthroughs. He shares his belief that an investment approach without understanding of the technology is going to be lacking. This belief informed the development of the Dragonfly.xyz team to include technologists, hackers, and researchers.

Germany-based type design studio NaN.xyz strives to deliver projects with purpose for clients including Google and Virgin. Creative agency ArtsandLetters.xyz works with a client roster of world-renowned brands like Google and ESPN. In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to a branding and web design business with a unique specialty in craft beer marketing: PerfectEvolution.xyz.
PerfectEvolution.xyz is the online home of Perfect Evolution, a branding and web design business that strives to create engaging and informative experiences for its clients. Founder Marcus Ohanesian has been running the Massachusetts-based business as a portfolio and agency for his creative work since 2001. Marcus currently works for eCommerce solution provider Trellis, and has been the Design & Marketing Manager for Timberyard Brewing Company since 2018. Marcus started out in 2008 as a graphic designer for Spreadshirt, and has gained experience from various roles in design and project management throughout his career. In addition to his varied portfolio of creative projects through Perfect Evolution, he is developing a niche in design for breweries and craft beer. As he claims on his website, this background is what helps Marcus to design a standout brand that can make his clients discoverable by more customers.
Since beginning his creative work with PerfectEvolution.xyz, Marcus has worked with an assortment of clients to help them design their branding and create user friendly websites. Marcus is responsible for the newly developed website for non-profit organization Ninety to Zero. The organization, whose mission is to advance racial equity by growing Black talent and investing in Black businesses, now has an easy-to-navigate, informational WordPress website that can help to spread their message. Additionally, Marcus designed a new logo for Worcester-based plant boutique Seed to Stem. Marcus has also designed the branding and developed a Shopify store for BoxBuddy, a wholesale retailer of packing boxes and wooden pallets.
When Marcus began working with the Massachusetts-based Timberyard Brewing Company, he started developing his niche in craft beer. As he states on his website, “Each craft beer brewing project Perfect Evolution takes on combines the best of what I’ve learned from 20 years of visual marketing with lessons from the taproom floor.” In June 2022, Marcus was a guest on the GoWP Digital Agency Owners podcast and shared his knowledge about the distinctions between branding and marketing, and specifically what branding means in the craft beer space.1 As he explains, branding is more than just a logo. It can also be the tone of voice used in your website copy, the imagery on your website, the packaging of your beer, and the design of your merchandise. It can even include the music selections at your breweries. He explains that branding involves every component that can leave a lasting impression on customers. For Timberyard, PerfectEvolution.xyz developed a full brand strategy and an appealing new label to help Timberyard launch and successfully pivot to offsite distribution in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. PerfectEvolution.xyz also designed the brand’s Dry Irish Stout can as well as their Oktoberfest can. Additionally, Marcus has worked with Craft Beer Professionals, a national network dedicated to the growth and betterment of the Craft Beer industry. PerfectEvolution.xyz designed a new logo for the organization which paired nicely with the white, black, and yellow color scheme of their website.
Back in 2015, Marcus upgraded his domain from PerfectEvolutionStudios.com to the shorter and more memorable PerfectEvolution.xyz. Marcus really enjoys the memorability of his .xyz domain. Fair.xyz is a no-code NFT platform aimed at creating a more efficient and fair NFT launch process for both creators and collectors. The London-based platform is designed with a combination of smart contract and proprietary queueing technology intended to reduce obstacles like gas wars, failed transactions, and more. Fair.xyz raised a total of $4.5M in funding led by blockchain-focused venture capital firm Eden Block, with participation from leading NFT marketplace OpenSea and seed-stage venture capital firm NFX.1 In February 2022, when the Russo-Ukrainian War broke out, the founders reached out to more than 40 officials from the Ukrainian government with offers to launch an NFT collection to raise funds for the war. They succeeded and launched the first ever government-backed NFT collection.2 On September 7, 2022, Fair.xyz announced a new partnership with leading NFT marketplace OpenSea to launch a feature named “Minter Token.” A Minter Token can cryptographically prove the minter of a specific NFT, even if they no longer own it. On August 9, 2022, Fair.xyz shared a tweet claiming that more than 15,000 people have signed up for the waitlist.4 The highly anticipated platform features proprietary blockchain technology focused on easier launches, while maintaining the creator’s full ownership rights to the project’s smart contract. Fair.xyz’s smart-queuing technology helps to eliminate transaction expenses like gas fees while reducing the number of unsuccessful transactions and bots from traditional minting activities. The platform’s current infrastructure has been optimized to considerably reduce gas fees during a mint on Ethereum and Polygon blockchains. The platform is also developing a solution that will help creators launch NFT collections quickly and simply. In an interview with crypto-focused news source The Block, co-founder Isaac Bentata Chocron explained “When you launch at scale — say 10,000 – you have to deploy your own smart contract, build a website and integrate the NFT fully into it, generate your artwork and decentralize it. It’s a very elaborate process that can take weeks for an experienced team.”5 Fair.xyz hopes to reduce the process down to a matter of minutes.
