.xyz 3-Letter and 4-Number Themed Auction Results

As part of our 2 year Anniversary celebration, we partnered with West.cn to kick off our first “themed” auctions with LLL.xyz (3-letter) and NNNN.xyz (4-number) domains. In Chinese tradition, certain numbers such as 6, 8, and 9 are believed to have auspicious meanings, which signify luck and fortune. Chinese investors also consider consecutive 3-letter domains to be attractive investments because they short and memorable. They call these consecutive letter domains “leopard domains.” We want to share the great results from these auctions and congratulate those who bid and won!

In the LLL auction, a total of 226 .xyz domains were sold for a combined 242,350 RMB (~$36,719.70). Some highlights include one “leopard domain,” OOO.xyz, whose winner, after an intense bidding war, won the domain with a final winning bid of 21,000 RMB ($3,181.82 USD)! In previous .xyz auctions, we have seen similar consecutive 3 letter domains sold for a very good prices. So congratulations to the new owner of ooo.xyz.

In the NNNN auction, a total of 189 .xyz domains were sold for a combined 94,840.00 RMB (~$14,369.70 USD) at no reserve prices.

Happy Humpday, #GenXYZ! We hope June 2016 has been as awesome for you as it has been for us. Our birthday month is almost over, and we have so much to look forward to as summer kicks off. Even though Silicon Valley (the HBO hit behind Hooli.xyz) is one of our favorite shows, the Season Finale isn’t the only exciting thing we’re referring to. We recently upgraded our Facebook account from “DotXYZ” to the ultra-rare 3-letter “XYZ.”

We know how important it is to align your brand across all online fronts. An easy-to-remember, exact-match username can serve as a huge boon for any brand name. It’s safe to say that almost everyone likes a good party. You invite your friends, enjoy the food & festivities, and make sure there’s fun to be had for everyone involved. The celebration, of course, is the best part and will hopefully leave everyone with unforgettable memories. Just like any good party though, there’s always some cleanup to do afterward.

Last week, approximately 50 of our registrar partners, countless resellers, and thousands of customers helped .xyz celebrate our 2 Year Anniversary. In a matter of a few days, over 3 million new .xyz domains were registered. Many of them appear to be registered by start ups, developers, and investors, and we can’t wait to see how the next generation of internet users will use these domains.

However, we also realize that there may be some bad actors in the mix, and we too have some cleaning up to do after the party. XYZ has a zero-tolerance policy toward any of the following abuse-related activities on .xyz or any of our other domain extensions:

• Unsolicited email marketing (spam)
• Malware
• Phishing sites (attempts to hijack your personal and/or financial data)
• Other illegal activities

So what does XYZ actually do to mitigate abuse?

We have developed a sophisticated abuse monitoring tool which allows us to proactively monitor, detect in near realtime, and suspend domains engaging in any of the above activities, based on evidence. We have developed strong partnerships with many of the industry’s leading data providers to help us identify and eliminate the bad apples from the many good ones that we have in our namespace, which is why there is less than 0.1% abuse in the entire .xyz zone (nTLDstats.com, May 6, 2016).

Once we have identified an abusive domain, we immediately notify the sponsoring registrar. Since we work very closely with our registrar partners, these domains are usually shut down in a very short period of time to prevent any harm to internet users. We then communicate with the registrants (either directly or via the registrar) to help them clean up their websites if they were hacked.

In the off chance that someone catches an abusive domain before our data providers do, we have an abuse feedback system that allows internet users to report abuse 24/7. Please visit our Abuse Page if you have detected a harmful website or abuse from a .xyz domain name. XYZ strives to keep our namespace clean and to make sure that .xyz has the best reputation possible. If you have any feedback or suggestions, send us a tweet @XYZ or contact us.

But a little cleanup behind the scenes doesn’t mean the party is over. We’re only one week into June, which means there’s roughly three more weeks left in our birthday month!
