At XYZ, we are rooted in connecting people across the world and wanted to take the time to observe one of the biggest celebratory weeks in Japan – Golden Week. Golden Week is a seven day celebration of four national holidays – Showa Day (the birthday of former Emperor Showa), Constitution Day (honoring the present Constitution of Japan), Greenery Day (a day dedicated to the environment and nature), and Children’s Day (a day where families pray for the health and future success of their children).
As the most popular new domain extension in Japan, we wanted to draw attention to some of the great use cases we’ve seen from Japanese businesses and individuals, in honor of Golden Week:
ThatStore.xyz is a fashion eCommerce site that sells everything from shirts, pants, and shoes to soaps, custom made bags, accessories, gadgets and more. With countless options, it’s the perfect site to check out gifts for friends and family or if you’re looking for a stylish t-shirt for yourself. By using .xyz, That Store has been able to create global brand recognition through uniformity in their social media handles: Facebook.com/ThatStore.xyz and Instagram.com/ThatStore.xyz.
Jagzzi.xyz is an online fashion and lifestyle magazine run by university students in Tokyo. They first launched their site as Jagzzi.com, but went international when they switched over to Jagzzi.xyz. Not only does the site rank first for the term “Jagzzi” in Japan’s Google (google.co.jp), but it also ranks first in Google across the globe, despite the fact that the site’s content is entirely in Japanese. Don’t believe us? Try searching for “Jagzzi” on Google.de. This is a great example of how .xyz is a launching ground for businesses to expand their brand internationally.
Kisaburo.xyz was started by an individual who wanted to break down the boundaries between Japanese and Western fashion, as well as men’s and women’s clothing, by focusing on a new era of kimono designs and collections. Kisaburo.xyz, the official website for Kisaburo’s fashion line, is another great example of a next generation internet user innovating with his Name.xyz.
GPS.rent is a real-time GPS tracking service that offers transmitters/devices for rent for use in your car, bike, mobile device, personal computer…anything really. As the new web address for gps-service.sakura.ne.jp, there is a clear reason why this business chose to use a short and memorable domain name such as GPS.rent: it’s industry-specific, international, and the domain doubles as a call-to-action.
These are just a few of the many diverse use cases we’ve seen in Japan recently. We look forward to celebrating your .xyz with you beyond Golden Week as we continue to grow and connect audiences everywhere. What are you celebrating this month? Tweet us @xyz and subscribe to our newsletter to stay up-to-date on all things .xyz.

Hope to see you all there!
If you were at SXSW 2016, chances are you saw the #XYZSquad all over the city…literally everywhere – we covered a total of 60 miles during our weekend in Austin. Having attended SXSW the past 2 years, our #XYZSquad has become quite recognizable in their purple suits. However, this year they left a lasting impression on attendees by sparking a 3D fashion statement.
Last week, we introduced our secret XYZ 3D Lab (read the full blog post here) to attendees by handing out thousands of custom 3D glasses while the #XYZSquad was parkouring throughout Austin. Everywhere they went they left a Hansel and Gretel trail of people rocking some red, blue, and purple shades.
At an event as creative and innovative as SXSW, how can 3D glasses NOT become an immediate fashion trend?! Not only were the glasses a huge hit for style points, but they also grant access into the XYZ 3D Lab. The popularity of our 3D Lab shows that this year’s SXSW crowd has spoken – blue and red glasses are back in style.
SXSW has always been one of our favorite events, and this year it was better than ever. The combination of everyone in their 3D glasses, the excitement around Hooli.xyz at SXSW, plus getting to meet so many amazing .xyz fans all over Austin made 2016 a tough year to beat…
So we can’t wait to see what SXSW 2017 will bring!
Check out our Facebook page for the full SXSW 2016 photo album! If you were lucky enough to run into the #XYZSquad but don’t see your picture in the album, drop us a line on Facebook or tweet at @XYZ – the more the merrier!
We sure had “a whale of a time” at ICANN’s 54th conference in Dublin, Ireland. It feels like just yesterday that we launched .xyz to the world, when in reality there have already been seven ICANN conferences since then!
ICANN, the organization that oversees the entire internet naming system, hosts these global public meetings to discuss how to make the internet a better place. This is also a great opportunity for us to catch up with all of our partners throughout the world.
Dublin was a nice break from the Southern California heat wave, where we had the opportunity to meet in-person with more than 50 of our partners at the Dublin Convention Centre.
One of the many highlights was the welcome gala at Dublin’s famous Dame Lane. Themed “That Night in Dublin,” we ate and drank the Irish way with other conference attendees.
We also visited Google’s Ireland office, which is punnily located on Google Docks.
If you find yourself in Dublin, Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud is a must-try. We wined and dined with our trusty registrar partners, Namecheap.
And to cap off a successful week, we celebrated Raedene’s birthday, who’s an integral part of the team that supports all of the .xyz backend magic over at CentralNic.
With ICANN Dublin in the books, we’re excited to finish off the year with a bang. Not only are we releasing .xyz and .College premiums, we’re also launching our newest additions to the XYZ family: .Cars, .Car, .Auto, .Security, .Protection, and .Theatre.
This year has been chock-full of conferences – and we love it! Conferences are a great place to meet industry leaders and learn about the newest developments and insights. Just recently, we were in good ol’ Brew City Milwaukee to rep .College at the annual HighEdWeb conference.
HighEdWeb brings together all types of higher education professionals to explore unique web issues that colleges and universities face. Topics ranged from technology in education all the way to using Snapchat as a marketing tool!
Digital strategy was a hot topic at HighEdWeb. Since a university’s website is typically the first point of contact for prospective students and parents, it wasn’t surprising to learn that 78% of seniors said websites make a difference in how they view a university!
To capture the attention of these students in this digital age, HighEdWeb sessions focused on website redesign strategies, like having a cohesive message across all schools, utilizing video content, and analyzing web traffic. Revamping a school’s website and digital presence is a great way to engage with students, alumni, and the communities around them. Has your school gone through a rebranding recently?
We’re off on a Eurotrip to meet our business partners at the ICANN Conference in Dublin, and will be zipping back to the states for one of the biggest ed tech conferences in the nation. We have some special goodies for this one, so make sure to check back to find out what they are!
Want to stay up-to-date on .College domains and higher ed news? Follow @College on Twitter.
Just yesterday, .College domains were released globally. You heard right – now any business, organization, or individual can register their own .College domain. It’s only the second day of general availability and .College domains have been flying off the shelves! We’re seeing great keyword domains getting snagged left and right:
Do you consider yourself an excellent chef? How about a domain like CookingTips.College to showcase your recipes or photos of your cooking ventures. Or if you’re an arts and craft fan, you can use DoItYourself.College to build a community of DIY lovers sharing how to’s, best practices, and testimonials for fun projects.
Brands and businesses can use .College domains, too. With a .College web address, you’ll get immediate recognition as a college-related site or campaign and attract your target market. It’s perfect for recruiting or marketing to college students, or even as an online hub for employee training.
We can’t wait to see what types of innovative uses #GenXYZ will bring to .College. Did I hear someone say SportsHighlights.College?
It sure has been a busy September, #GenXYZ. At the exact same time as ICANN’s GDD Summit in LA, the #XYZsquad was also in Beantown for INBOUND, the colossal marketing conference where over 10,000 people traveled from around the world to discuss the future of marketing. The keynote lineup with Seth Godin, Brene Brown, and Aziz Ansari, is telling enough of how INBOUND is the place-to-be for any savvy marketers.
So what was Team XYZ doing at INBOUND? With our trusty domain partner in crime, Rebel, the #XYZsquad hit the streets of Boston and the Convention Center to educate INBOUND’rs on the online marketing opportunities with .xyz and new domains. And a success, it was!
Did you miss out on the excitement of INBOUND? Catch a glimpse into the conference and watch the #XYZsquad in action:
Can you guess where they’ll venture to next? The best way to stay in the loop is to sign up for the XYZ newsletter here!
We had a blast co-hosting the Southern California Domainer Meetup at the XYZ Santa Monica office last week. The turnout was great and more than we imagined. With over 80 attendees – and Armin van Buuren blasting in the background – it was a happening night, to say the least.
For this round of The Challenge, we’re excited to announce that we have 3 amazing judges who not only have knowledge and expertise, but also a passion for the domain space: Konstantinos Zournas, Jason Thompson, and Morgan Linton.
You probably recognize Konstantinos’ name from Online Domain, but also because he was the judge for Round 1. Being the industry celebrity that he is, we just had to invite him again!
And last but not least, Morgan Linton is a veteran in the domain namespace and is busy running his Austin-based startup, Fashion Metric. He wasn’t able to make it in person, so he surprised us by calling in to say hello to the Meetup crowd!
Fun fact: Morgan and Jason are the founding fathers of the SoCal Domainers group! Their first Meetup had less than 10 people in a small bar in Downtown LA.
#GenXYZ, there’re only 1.5 weeks left until submissions for The Challenge close! Remember, there will be a winner for both a .COM and .XYZ domain.
What would do if you won $1,000? Tweet us @XYZ!
In LA? Join us for this month’s SoCal Domainers Meetup, hosted by yours truly. Look forward to street tacos, refreshments, and an exciting talk by our CEO Daniel Negari.
Thursday, August 20 | 6:30 pm
2800 Olympic Blvd
Santa Monica, CA 90404
Whether you can attend or not, you’re still invited to take The Challenge :) The drill is the same – register the best .COM or .XYZ domain you can find, and you’ll be entered to win $1,000.
Hope to see you all at the Meetup this Thursday!
Judge Konstantinos has spoken!
When asked why they thought this would be the winning .COM domain, the registrant said:
“It’s an exceptional easy name to remember that EVERYONE has used at sometime in their life-in any country worldwide.”
When asked how they would use this awesome .XYZ domain, the registrant explained:
I’m going to be launching a free, online, automatic transcription service, and releasing the source code open-source. Transcribe. That is what the site will do.
Like most open-source projects, they tend to pick the name based on the primary function. It’s short and sweet. Every iteration of Transcribe I could think of was registered. .XYZ gave me the most succinct solution!
The slate is now clean and Round 2 of The Challenge is open for submissions! The drill is the same. Register and submit the best .COM and .XYZ domains you can find through September 3, and you’ll be entered to win $1,000!
For our international #GenXYZ’ers, what domains would YOU submit to The Challenge? I know you might not want to share your stellar domain ideas, but if you’re in a particularly sharing mood, tweet us @XYZ and let’s see what you got!
