DAO-governed Universe.xyz, co-founded by early Ethereum investor Tim Kang, helps you mint NFTs and launch your own community-driven NFT universe. Crypto wallet Monolith.xyz, founded by Dutch entrepreneur and investor Mel Gelderman, aims to make it easier for users to buy, store, and spend their cryptocurrency in the real world. This week’s #WebsiteWednesday features the company website of record-breaking Web3-focused venture capital firm co-founded by Forbes-featured billionaire Fred Ehrsam: Paradigm.xyz.
Paradigm.xyz is a Web3 and crypto-focused venture capital firm. This past November, Paradigm.xyz announced a $2.5 billion venture fund, the largest cryptocurrency fund as of publication. The San Francisco-based firm was founded by one of Forbes’ richest people in America, Fred Ehrsam, and former Sequoia Capital partner Matt Huang. Fred Ehrsam, known for co-founding the leading cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, has also created his own portfolio website at FEhrsam.xyz. He has appeared on such Forbes lists as 400 2021 Richest People in America and World’s Billionaires 2021, as well as Time Magazine’s 30 People Under 30 Changing the World. Fred departed Coinbase in 2017 before launching Paradigm.xyz, but remains on the Coinbase board and owns approximately 6% of its stock.
Paradigm.xyz is focused on investing in Web3-based companies, including emerging technology-focused platforms like DAOs, NFT marketplaces, and decentralized finance applications like cryptocurrency exchanges. In the first quarter of 2020, the firm led a $12 million funding for crypto wallet startup and previously featured member of the .xyz community, Argent.xyz1. The decentralized cryptocurrency wallet combines a simple interface with leading security features, designed to offer a better overall experience for crypto traders. Prysm.xyz is a Web3 platform that raised $3 million to launch the public beta of their new social investing network.1 Users of the platform can look for crypto investment opportunities by following verified investors and seeing what they’re investing in. Prysm.xyz helps potential investors meet new people in the crypto space, connect with verified investors, and find new opportunities. Users can follow other members and then view their cryptocurrency and NFT transactions unfold on their feeds.
Profiles on Prysm.xyz are backed by on-chain track records which help you to verify the track records of “experts.” Users can connect their crypto wallet to follow each other’s profiles and receive a live feed of all on-chain investment transactions. Social feeds derived from crypto wallet activity can help users to view the investment activities of their friends and crypto influencers, and share in potentially lucrative opportunities. In addition to viewing the social feed, you can also view anyone’s profile page to see an overview of all of their transactions and their NFT and crypto ERC20 token holdings. Supporting the platform’s goal of transparency, you can also check out a user’s entire history of transaction posts, which you can sort by crypto ERC20 token transactions, NFT transactions, or both. ERC20 transactions include profitable token trades, percent of trades that were profitable, and an average rate of returns. NFT transactions include positive NFT resales and total number of a user’s minted NFTs.

Afritech.xyz is a program designed to connect early-stage tech startups in Africa to mentors and investors worldwide. In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to American Society for Deaf Children’s new online app designed to help parents communicate with their deaf children: Fingerspelling.xyz.
Fingerspelling.xyz is a fun and engaging resource created by non-profit organization American Society for Deaf Children (ASDC) to help families of deaf and hard of hearing children learn American Sign Language (ASL). ASDC is “committed to empowering diverse families with deaf children and youth by embracing full access to language-rich environments through mentoring, advocacy, resources, and collaborative networks.”1 Statistics indicate that nearly three out of 1,000 children in the US are born with hearing loss, and more than 90 percent of deaf children are born to hearing parents.2 ASDC worked with creative studio Hello Monday to build an innovative and educational website that teaches “fingerspelling” – a form of ASL in which individual letters are formed by the fingers to spell out words.
The web-based app is designed to be fun and encouraging for players of all ages to enjoy learning ASL. Once you start, you are given a word and the computer shows you a 3D model of how your hand should be positioned for each letter of the word. For example, a player could be given the word “clay” and asked to spell it. You are then prompted to sign the first letter. The app utilizes the user’s webcam to track their hand movements as they practice the hand positions of the ASL alphabet, while an algorithm trained on images of correct hand positions analyzes the accuracy. On the left-hand side of the screen, there is a 3D hand that shows you how your hand and fingers should be positioned. On the right-hand side is the feed from your web camera, and you then hold up your hand and mirror what the 3D hand shows a C looks like. There are indicators on the 3D hand that help you see if your fingers are positioned correctly. Once you succeed, you are advanced to the next letter.
Feedback on this innovative learning tool has been extremely positive. Organizations praise the website for its design and innovation. England’s FWA, whose mission is to “showcase cutting edge creativity, regardless of the medium or technology used” named Fingerspelling.xyz their “FWA of the month” in May 2021.3 That same month, global web design organization Awwwards named Fingerspelling.xyz their site of the day.4 A quick search on Twitter shows additional high praise.5 Stephen Shankland of CNET News tweeted “This is a marvelous way to learn the sign language alphabet. Computer camera tracks your hand and AI figures out your finger positions.”6

Silicon Valley-based Kevin Rose is a partner at True Ventures, a venture capital firm that has invested $2 billion in early stage technology startups, including Peloton, FitBit, and Ring. With a growing interest in the NFT space, Kevin created the NFT-themed podcast Proof.xyz in March 2021. There are over 30 episodes of the podcast featuring interviews with NFT artists, like Sarah Zucker, and platform developers, like Tyler Ward of Universe.xyz. Kevin’s interviews demonstrate his understanding of what the average newcomer may be wondering, and he manages to simplify the discussion for easy digestibility for all audiences. He uses his new podcast to share his passion and growing knowledge, and provides a platform that offers valuable visibility to artists and developers of this new space. Proof.xyz helped grow Kevin’s audience, and led to the development of the new Proof Collective.
