In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to a new Web3 publishing platform that aims to help musicians release and monetize their music: Sound.xyz.
Sound.xyz is the online home of a new crypto music publishing platform aiming to disrupt the music industry. The artist-focused platform looks to help recording artists gain more of their music’s value by harnessing the power of blockchain technology to turn songs into collectible NFTs. Sound.xyz has plans to help musicians with this process by developing a full suite of Web3-native music and economic tools for use on the platform. On December 15, 2021, the startup announced they had raised $5 million in a seed round led by the a16z Crypto division of technology venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. Sound.xyz joins a roster of crypto projects in a16z Crypto’s portfolio, including blockchain storage software Arweave and Ethereum-based decentralized finance protocol Uniswap. Other backers of Sound.xyz include Variant Fund, Scalar Capital, and rapper and record producer 21 Savage.1
The new platform aims to bolster the economic benefits musicians receive for their work. Inspired by NFT platform (and fellow .xyz community member) Manifold.xyz, the platform’s Sound Studio helps artists to mint original high-quality song NFTs while retaining true ownership of their work through embedded smart contracts. Artists are intended to receive 100% of the proceeds from their NFTs, as well as 10% of every resale, without losing ownership of their master or publishing rights.
Sound.xyz’s first tool, Listening Party, was released in early December to great praise from the platform’s inaugural artists. After launch, Sound.xyz featured a Listening Party for each of seven songs from independent artists on the platform. Each song sold out in less than a minute and generated revenue for the artists equivalent to 21 million streams on leading platforms.2 Daniel Allan tweeted that after the release of his song “Too Close” on Sound.xyz, it quickly sold out and he “earned $11K in five seconds.”3 The platform currently supports crypto wallets MetaMask and Wallet Connect.
The platform was developed by former Pandora Product Manager David Greenstein, Web3 programmer and DJ Matt Masurka, and former Apple Software engineer Vignesh Hirudayakanth. In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to an Ethereum-based exploration game centered around customizable NFT characters within a fantastical new community: Sipher.xyz.
Sipher.xyz is the online home of Sipher, a blockchain-focused gaming studio founded by Vietnam-based real estate developer and entrepreneur Tin Nguyen. It is also home to their namesake game built on the Ethereum blockchain. Sipher.xyz encourages players and investors to acquire NFTs as they navigate their way through the Sipheria, a vast online universe where players can go on missions, join factions, compete in races, make new friends, earn money, and more. The game’s characters are called Siphers, and they are user-designed, limited edition sets of NFT game characters owned by the player who acquires and customizes them. In October 2021, Sipher.xyz raised $6.8 million in its seed round of funding, co-led by VC firm Arrington XRP Capital.1 In a recent blog post, the VC firm wrote about the unique value of Sipher.xyz: “The significance of a player-owned virtual economy with real-world value cannot be understated. Sipher has designed an intricate gameplay and economic flywheel with a dual token economy to ensure sustainable growth and player adoption.”2
Players of Sipher.xyz have the unique opportunity to earn financial rewards as they have fun. Sipher.xyz has its own ERC-20 crypto token known as SIPHER ($SIPHER). This token serves as a transactional currency that can be used to participate in the governance of the game and purchase in-game NFTs such as costumes, accessories, weapons, and more. The blockchain game was designed to allow players to hold full ownership rights over all of their NFTs acquired from the game. These rights are stored using blockchain technology, which ascertains that they cannot be altered or deleted. Players are irrefutable owners of all the NFTs they acquire in Sipheria, which also classifies them as investors. All players and investors can trade their NFTs on the platform’s native marketplace known as the Bazaar, the commerce headquarters in Sipheria, where players can also pick professions and choose from a wide range of goods and services.
Sipher.xyz attracted global attention very quickly. Prior to completing their seed round, Sipher.xyz released their first NFT collection, known as Sipher Inu, which consisted of 10,000 playable characters for the game. Sipher.xyz explains the NFTs have been designed with programmable emotions. Each character has five different emotions upon purchase, and more will be unlockable in the future. This collection sold out in less than fifteen minutes at an average cost of 0.4 ETH per NFT3. Hopeful players of the game and other NFT enthusiasts who could not purchase a Sipher Inu raced to NFT marketplace OpenSea to try to buy them in the aftermarket.

Celebratory wine blog TheLushLife.xyz offers sommelier Sarah Tracey’s wine knowledge and advice for best pairings, gift ideas, and style guides. Fashion entrepreneur Egreis Gjergjani introduced StilettoMeUp.xyz as a way to share her personal stories of welcoming the births of her children and launching two businesses. Travel and adventure blog BigBlueDot.xyz chronicles the global experiences of the Colebrook 5, a family from Red Deer Canada who visited 21 countries on an 18-month journey. In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to the online home of recipe writer, travel photographer, and social media wonder Sarah Wohlner: SaltandPepper.xyz.
SaltandPepper.xyz is the food and travel-themed blog of marketing manager and content creator Sarah Wohlner. She drives fans and visitors to her website from her successful Instagram account with 101K followers, and an extremely popular Tik Tok account with over 592K followers and over 11M likes. Sarah created the website in April 2020, which now includes over 30 recipes, affiliate links to her favorite equipment, and a permanent way to contact her directly. One of our team members recently enjoyed the opportunity to see this project in person and captured a few photos for us. With the holiday season comes an increase in travel and tourism, so this #WebsiteWednesday we are checking back in to see what’s new at BostonSeaport.xyz
Welcome to BostonSeaport.xyzBostonSeaport.xyz is the online home of Boston Seaport, a 7.6 million square foot lifestyle center comprising residential, hotel, office, retail, entertainment, and public open spaces in Boston’s Seaport district. The project, one of the largest development projects in Boston’s history, was developed by Massachusetts-based property developer WS Development. BostonSeaport.xyz serves to inform the growing district with a regularly updated calendar of events, transportation services, parking information, lists of services and amenities, and even a link to career opportunities within the center. There’s also a comprehensive directory of over 35 shopping destinations. BostonSeaport.xyz has become an online information hub for all things related to the development project.
Visitors young and old enjoy learning about BostonSeaport.xyzAs the project continues to develop, so has the choice of shopping destinations and family-friendly activities. Visitors to the center can enjoy a variety of new and exciting special events each month that weren’t available the first time we featured BostonSeaport.xyz. The Holiday Market at Snowport celebrates small, local businesses and is running until January 2, 2022. This new seasonal event features more than 60 small businesses, a Christmas tree market, and special menus from resident restaurants. The Institute of Contemporary Art Boston (ICA), which hosts various exhibitions, family activities, and teen programming throughout the year, is now free for all visitors every Thursday evening. On Sundays afternoons, new green venue The Rocks at Harbor Way presents Singing Tree concerts. At this family-friendly event, the biorhythms of Sugar Maples and Sassafras trees are translated into music by strategically placed electrodes that measure the electrical variations of leaves and translate that data into sound. The Rocks at Harbor Way venue was introduced in October 2021, and is the first phase of the Harbor Way public space slated for completion in 2024. The completed pedestrian promenade will create a link between Summer Street and the waterfront, and is inspired by New England’s coastal geology, forest landscapes, and traditional wooden boardwalks.
The Current at BostonSeaport.xyzSince our first feature, BostonSeaport.xyz gained some retailers like Outdoor Voices and Everlane, as well as eateries like Chipotle and Harpoon Brewery. BostonSeaport.xyz is also now home to an experiential shopping area known as The Current. The Current was developed in 2018, and was designed as an inviting village for guests to wander and explore. The experiential space features a rotating lineup of emerging brands and small businesses. Retailers including Italian skincare brand Aloe Attiva, custom denim jacket designer BROdenim, and luxury pajama brand Maison Nou are making their stay at The Current through the middle of January 2022.
