Eth.xyz turns ENS profiles into shareable URLs

We are excited to publish a service we started developing to help ENS users share what they want to the world: eth.xyz. The XYZ Registry is committed to supporting the next generation of internet users, including Web3 trailblazers and beyond. In 2018, we helped pioneer the original Ethereum Name Service (ENS) and DNS integration, helping you to use your .xyz domain for your Ethereum wallet address. With over 3 million registrations worldwide, .xyz is quickly becoming a top choice for those that value freedom and versatility online. This is especially true for the rapidly growing blockchain community.

Eth.xyz is a feature we started developing to continue our support of the blockchain community. If you have a .eth name, you have a profile for it in the ENS manager. This profile can be a hub for all the important public information you want to be connected with the .eth name – including a profile picture and contact information. With eth.xyz, all .eth name holders can display their ENS profiles in all web browsers. This shortlink can work for .eth holders in a few suggested ways: a lookup where you can more easily find the profile and wallet information connected to an .eth name, a way to share your addresses, or an easy way to showcase your NFT collection. This is the first draft of this service and we are looking forward to receiving feedback and collaboration from the ENS community. We published the project on GitHub so that anyone can suggest ideas or changes.

Every .eth name has been granted automatic access to an eth.xyz shortlink. To use it, just add “.xyz” to the end of any .eth name in any web browser and the corresponding ENS profile will display (i.e. Nick.eth = Nick.eth.xyz). The profile content is automatically populated from publicly available information provided through ENS, and is ultimately controlled by the relevant ENS user.

Eth.xyz also benefits ENS profiles connected to .xyz domains, subdomains, and any other domain ending. Viewing these profiles is just a little bit different: add the domain (your ENS username) to the end of eth.xyz (i.e. eth.xyz/d.mirror.xyz). It still has some TO DOs and known issues to be worked out, and we are excited to test it out. We are looking forward to understanding what else the community would like to see in this feature. We are also looking forward to gas prices coming down so more users can create ENS profiles and connect their .xyz domains to their wallets via ENS.

nick.eth.xyz/

The above screenshot is the profile that eth.xyz generates from an .eth name, if it has been added via the ENS Manager. ENS Founder and Lead Developer Nick Johnson has the .eth name Nick.eth. Eth.xyz makes it possible to access the ENS profile he associated with Nick.eth in any browser by adding the “.xyz” at the end of his name. Type Nick.eth.xyz into your browser. His profile is populated with the information that was important to him to share, such as his website, email address, and social media profile.

nick.eth.xyz/

All of the displayed content for each .eth name is dynamically pulled from the connected ENS profile, down to their NFTs. Beneath the profile is a neatly organized display of the connected NFT collection. Each NFT is clickable for a closer look at the title and description, pulled via API from OpenSea.

nick.eth.xyz/

Following Nick’s NFT collection is any addresses that he has connected to his ENS profile, which will make it easier for others to identify his wallet addresses and transact with him.

benahorowitz.eth.xyz

See another great example of a profile with an extensive NFT collection from Ben Horowitz, author and co-founder of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. He has the .eth name BenAHorowitz.eth. When you type BenAHorowitz.eth.xyz into your browser you can see a link to his Twitter profile, his NFT collection, and the address to his Ethereum wallet. Ben’s NFT collection includes an assortment of CryptoKitties, as well as a selection of Pixel Portraits.

maaria.eth.xyz

Another great profile example belongs to Maaria Bajwa, principal at Sound Ventures, a technology venture capital firm led by Ashton Kutcher. Maaria has the .eth name Maaria.eth. By typing Maaria.eth.xyz into your browser, you can see a link to Maaria’s Linktree page, her Telegram, and her Twitter profile. Beneath that, check out over 80 NFTs in her vast collection ranging from Mini-Pufts from the limited run of Ghostbusters: Afterlife Collectibles, to a couple of Robopets, a collection of droid characters designed by artist Pablo Stanley.

Eth.xyz and our longstanding partnership with Ethereum continues to enhance our mission of supporting the next generation of internet users. We are inspired by the many forward-thinking Web3 developers launching their projects in the .xyz community, and look forward to more to come.

Innovative platforms and corporations have been embracing .xyz domains and upgrading to domain names that signal their forward-thinking status. In 2015, Google’s parent company Alphabet was created, and forward-thinking decisionmakers used abc.xyz to brand its online home. Since 2016, Skype co-founders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis have used Starship.xyz for their autonomous robot delivery service. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has used Engine.xyz for years as the online home of their “tough tech incubator” The Engine, which provides funding, lab space, equipment, and mentorship to startups working to build world-changing technology. Venture capitalist and influencer Kevin Rose uses Proof.xyz as the online hub for his informational podcast devoted to the NFT space. In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to the newly rebranded parent company of popular services such as Cash App and their original product Square, whose credit card reader and app has helped entrepreneurs to launch their products and accept in-person and contactless payments effortlessly: Block.xyz.

Block.xyz

Block.xyz is the beautifully designed online home of newly named financial services-focused Block, Inc. (formerly Square, Inc.). The company, which has a net worth of $89.72 billion1, officially rebranded on December 10, 2021 to acknowledge their growth beyond their Square product, and to signal their intention to continue expanding their roster of products and services. As stated on their website, “These are our building blocks, united by our shared purpose of economic empowerment. We’re creating tools to help expand access to the economy.” This includes a focus on blockchain technologies, such as their Bitcoin-focused Square Crypto project, now known as Spiral.xyz, aimed at making Bitcoin the planet’s preferred currency. The company is celebrating the introduction of Block with an enjoyable TIDAL playlist curated by rap and hip-hop legend (and TIDAL backer and board member) Jay-Z, playable directly from the captivating Block.xyz homepage.

Prominent technology billionaire and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey also co-founded Block.xyz’s most notable service, Square, in 2009. Since then it has become a leading mobile payment solution that helps individuals, entrepreneurs, and businesses easily accept credit card payments on smartphones and tablets. Jack was most recently serving as Twitter’s CEO while also running Square. Jack stepped down from his role as Twitter CEO two days before Square, Inc. announced their rebrand. Jack explained the rebranding decision on Square’s product website:  “We built the Square brand for our Seller business, which is where it belongs. Block is a new name, but our purpose of economic empowerment remains the same. No matter how we grow or change, we will continue to build tools to help increase access to the economy.”

Block.xyz

There are layered reasons behind the choice of Block, Inc.’s new name. Square released a thread of Tweets2 sharing the news about the parent company’s name change, and included their inspiration behind the name Block: “Block references the neighborhood blocks where we find our sellers, a blockchain, block parties full of music, obstacles to overcome, a section of code, building blocks, and of course, tungsten cubes.”

The many associated meanings signal what they’ve accomplished thus far and what they intend to develop going forward. We are very excited to welcome Block.xyz to the .xyz community of innovative, forward thinkers, and we look forward to seeing what else is in store. For more information, you can follow the company on Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, or visit Block.xyz.

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are one-of-a-kind digital assets that are becoming increasingly popular. More and more NFT-focused creatives are launching their blockchain-based ideas to create, distribute, and invest in this growing crypto phenomenon on .xyz domains. Technology venture capitalist Kevin Rose was recently a guest of entrepreneur Tim Ferriss on his podcast The Random Show, where he discussed the crypto community’s attraction to the .xyz domain.

“The domain handle .xyz was co-opted by just the whole NFT and crypto movement. It just became this thing where all of the dot coms were taken. It seemed too commercial. It was played out. It was old. […]  And for some reason, if you’re Web3, if you’re crypto, if you’re NFTs, just use .xyz. And everyone just latched onto that. So that’s been the thing.”

Minting platform Manifold.xyz helps creators mint NFTs embedded with smart contracts. Crypto art curator FirstEdition.xyz created a blockchain art gallery. Decentralized Autonomous Organization project FlamingoDAO.xyz developed a platform for members to pool funds for NFT investments. In this this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to an informational podcast devoted to the NFT space hosted by Kevin Rose himself: Proof.xyz.

Proof.xyz

Proof.xyz is the online home of Proof, the podcast hosted by Silicon Valley-based venture capitalist Kevin Rose. Kevin created the NFT-themed podcast in March 2021. There are over 30 episodes of the podcast featuring interviews with NFT artists, developers of new tools for NFT creators and collectors, and discussions about NFT marketplaces, blockchain gaming, and the metaverse. Kevin is a partner at Silicon Valley-based True Ventures, a venture capital firm that has invested $2 billion in early stage technology startups, including Peloton, FitBit, and Ring. As he states on Proof.xyz’s homepage, BusinessWeek named him one of the “Top 25 Most Influential People on the Web,”1 Forbes named him one of “Top 25 Web Celebrities,”2 and Bloomberg named him as a “Top 25 Angel Investor.” As he shares on his LinkedIn page, Kevin’s notable angel investments include Twitter, Square, Foursquare, Nextdoor, Blue Bottle Coffee, and Facebook. Kevin has appeared on multiple talk shows as well as issues of Businessweek and Inc. Magazine. You may notice on his Twitter bio that Kevin displays his personal website as KevinRose.xyz (which redirects to his canonical URL), demonstrating his affinity for .xyz domains. In November, Kevin tweeted about receiving The Worm (a traveling, shareable NFT) from artist Tyler Hobbs, who had received it from Snoop Dogg. Tyler states that he shared it to Kevin for being “one of the biggest supporters of this space.”

Proof.xyz

Proof listeners can learn about the NFT space, the blockchain technology involved, and the different types of art being made by creators. Recent episodes include in-depth conversations with NFT artists like Berlin-based Alida Sun and Vancouver-based Nicolas Sassoon in which they each discuss their process and how they found their way to the NFT-space. A couple of particularly educational episodes from this past summer feature fellow .xyz community members. An episode in May 2021 features a discussion with the FlamingoDAO.xyz collaborators Priyanka Desai and Aaron Wright. Together they discuss what Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) are, how they operate, and how you can join one. An episode in June 2021 features a discussion with Universe.xyz co-founder Tyler Ward. Kevin and Tyler dive deep into the formation of the artist-focused NFT platform and its xyzDAO. The feedback on the Reviews page suggests that Proof.xyz is “always good,” “super enlightening,” and is a “must listen NFT show.”

We are inspired by the passion that Kevin has for the NFT space and in his interest in sharing that passion with the world. This informational and entertaining podcast about the innovative world of NFTs is a fantastic addition to the forward-thinking .xyz community. If you are interested in receiving regular updates from Proof.xyz, be sure to subscribe to Kevin’s newsletter. You can also follow the podcast on Twitter or visit Proof.xyz.

Manifold.xyzGoogle Domains customer – (Canada)

There are many NFT-focused Web3 creators and metaverse mavericks bringing their ideas to life in the .xyz community. NFT-focused decentralized autonomous organization FlamingoDAO.xyz created a platform for investing in blockchain-based assets. Metaverse-aimed Davatar.xyz helps you use NFTs or photos to create and assign one avatar across all ENS applications. In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday we’ll introduce you to an innovative NFT platform where users can mint their digital assets with baked-in smart contracts: Manifold.xyz.

Manifold.xyz

Manifold.xyz is the online home of a new Canada-based NFT minting company built on Ethereum that aims to help artists fully own their NFTs with the use of smart contract technology. Smart contracts are programs stored on a blockchain that are used to automate the execution of an agreement when predetermined conditions are met. Commonly, creators mint NFTs using the same platform that sells their NFT, making it a product of a third party’s minting contract. Manifold.xyz uses their embedded smart contract technology to offer Manifold Creator Contracts, which are aimed to help creators take full ownership of their NFTs by encouraging their work to stand out based on creator’s names. All NFTs minted on the platform are then compatible with, and can be sold on, other NFT platforms such as OpenSea, Rarible, Foundation, SuperRare, Nifty Gateway, and Zora. In August 2021, Manifold.xyz secured $7.91 million in seed funding, helping them to continue their growth and meet the appeal of new users to the NFT space as well as top artists and web3 content creators. These include such creators as accomplished 3D illustrator and digital artist Billelis, Turkish-American new media artist and designer Refik Anadol, and Grammy Award winning rapper and record executive Jay-Z, whose NFTs can be seen on the website’s homepage.

Manifold.xyz customers can use the platform’s Manifold Studio feature to mint their own NFTs without any necessary coding skills. Manifold Studio is free to use, and is intended to help novice creators build their presence in the NFT space while retaining true ownership of their work. Manifold Studio can automatically prepare your creator contract and send it to your browser when complete. Once your contract is deployed you have full control over it and retain the power to mint ERC-721 and ERC-1155 tokens, two major types of Ethereum tokens. The Manifold Studio feature also helps you to mint NFTs out of high-res images and videos, customize the attributes of your NFT, its video thumbnail, and store it in its decentralized storage platform. Manifold.xyzManifold.xyz

This summer, Grammy-nominated DJ Steve Aoki announced his involvement with Manifold.xyz in a series of Tweets about a project called Dominion X. Steve Aoki collaborated with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (the studio behind Robot Chicken and Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.) to present Dominion X, the first episodic series to launch on the blockchain. Dominion X was minted from a custom smart contract via Manifold.xyz with unique interactive qualities directly within the NFT. The debut NFT is a stop motion animated short that introduces the world of Character X, first seen in Steve Aoki’s Dream Catcher pack of eight NFTs.

Manifold.xyz was founded by Web3 developers Eric Diep, Richerd Chan, and Wilkins Chung to serve as the first platform where crypto visual artists can enjoy full ownership of their work. Richerd Chen recently made news by turning down a record-breaking offer for his Cryptopunk NFT. That offer was made by fellow .xyz community member, POAP.xyz. Richerd uses the particular NFT as his profile image, and rejected the $9.5M offer, stating: “To me, my brand, identity, and what I’m building in the NFT space will be way more valuable in the long run.”

We are inspired by the growing list of groundbreaking blockchain solutions making their home in the .xyz community. We look forward to seeing all of the brilliant artistry created by Manifold.xyz users. You can learn more by following Manifold using their perfect match Twitter handle at @manifoldxyz, or by visiting Manifold.xyz.
