Walrus.xyz is the online home of Walrus, a decentralized data storage protocol designed to support high-integrity, verifiable storage with reduced replication overhead. It introduces a custom encoding protocol called “Red Stuff,” intended to enable efficient recovery of lost data and support data verification in asynchronous network environments. Walrus is designed for a range of decentralized use cases, including the storage of NFT assets, application binaries, encrypted datasets, and data needed for blockchain scalability solutions like rollups. Instead of duplicating entire files across multiple nodes, Walrus uses a method called two-dimensional erasure coding.
